Magdalenas / Muffins

With this rain, we had to forget the plans for Easter, trekking, outside meals or even finish painting the living room.
Last year wasn't hot but at least it didn't rain and I organised an egg hunt for the children, followed by a nice crafty afternoon and cooking some "personalised" pizzas, heart and car shaped.
This year we are forced to stay indoors enduring this winter's last legs. Of course there are so many things that can be done at home, cleaning, organise wardrobes, sewing some curtains, baking, more cleaning, school homework, practise reading... and we started with something so useful and indispensable as baking muffins! Mattias loves dipping his hands in flour and we love eating, perfect!
I followed my untie's super easy recipe, and they were delicious:

                                                   - 5 eggs ( better home organic eggs)
                                                   - The weight of 5 eggs of sugar
                                                   - The weight of 4 eggs of butter
                                                   - The weight of 3 eggs of flour
                                                   - One sachet of baking powder
                                                   - Sliced almond
                                                   - One lemon zest (wash properly if it isn't home grown)

Mix everything in a bowl by hand, the batter should have lumps. With a wooden spoon distribute the mixture over the muffin cases almost to the top and garnish with some almonds. Introduce in the oven preheated to 225C until they rise and get a nice colour, take them out and let them cool.
Enjoy with a nice coffe and good company.

Congratulations to all dads, the biological and the ones that are fathers by choice.
This is what Mattias made in school for his dad, an empty pockets tray with a fish shape.

Caperucita Roja / Red Riding Hood

One of my favourite fairy tales is Red Riding Hood, at least the one that has filled more pages from my sketchbooks. The reason could be that Red Hood was an only child crossing the woods alone or, a more frivolous reason, the spectacular red capelet her grannie made for her...
It was the first book I got, when I still didn't know how to read and I have memories of my grandmother Maria, who couldn't read either, touching the illustrations with her finger of parchment and tanned skin.

Legomania

    Two new Lego creations:
Something like an excavator, very useful in archaeological sites finding big diamonds hidden in rocks and that doubles as a transport to go to work. Very ecofriendly!
And a helicopter with a pilot that wears a tie and happily shoots missiles to 'the baddies' on his way to work...

I have so many markers, pencils and paint brushes that I'm allways in need of new holders and boxes to organize them, and what is better than recycle what we already have around the house and  personalize it to get a different and unique piece. When I get tired of it , this tin will go to the recycling bin and I will decorate another one.
This quick and easy crafts are very rewarding and they give you a great sense of accomplishment when you can use them at home almost immediately.

Superheroes

A year ago, around this time, Mattias was a little obsessed with superheroes so I decided to make some easter eggs with the face of his favourite heroes. I think my favourite is Batman because he doesn't have any 'genetic superpower', but uses his intellect and physical power,he is a milionaire with a tormented soul that makes use of science, technology and his fortune to fight evil, a bit camp and so elegant, even wearing tights!
I stopped at five and there is one missing to complete the set.
Which was or is your favourite superhero?

Ancla / Anchor

Making stamps with EVA sheets is so easy. We only need to draw something on it, trim it and glue it to anything we could use as support, I chose a cork but we could use a plastic lid, a piece of wood... depends on the size of the stamp and the print we want to make.
If we want to print fabric to make napkins, kitchen towels or even renovate a t-shirt, we should use 'fabric paint', and once dry we have to iron to make it permanent. If we are going to decorate paper we can use any type of paint as well as specific stamp pads that can be found in any colour.

Cousiñas / Bits and bobs

With children at home, drawers, shelves and boxes are never enough to keep all the junk that grows and moves like lava reaching first chairs and then the floor. Well, this happens without children too...
I'm allways looking for alternative containers to the usual plastic ones, and I love the little wooden boxes for strawberries. With a coat of paint and a cute paper they are ideal to keep some craft materials or the Play-Doh.

Monstruo / Monster

We are becoming fond of Papier Mache, it's a quick and easy way of transforming any drawing into a three-dimensional object and the imperfection of the paper gives a childish charm to the figure. A grown up  should help with the scissors and taping, but gluing the pieces of paper and painting is perfect for little hands.
This monster was based in a drawing made by Mattias and we finished it in a few hours. It only needed a layer of paper because we covered it with masking tape and we put it to dry on top of the radiator. He is already thinking on different models to create an army of invading monsters, boys...!
This is a small tutorial if someone wants to do it:

Make a big and a small ball with kitchen paper.

2. Envolverlas en papel de aluminio / Cover them with kitchen foil.

3. Unirlas cubriendolas completamente con cinta de pintor / Tape them together covering completely with masking tape.

4. Recortar un cuadrado en carton del tamaño que se quieran las piernas / Cut a carton square of the size you want the legs.

5.6.7.8. Despues de enrollarlo hacer cortes en un extremo para el pie y en el otro en forma de cruz para sujetarlo al cuerpo / Make a tube, then cut one side to make the foot and in the other side make a cross to attach to the body.

9. Unirlo a la bola grande con mas cinta de pintor y repetir 4,5,6,7,8 y 9 tantas veces como piernas tenga el monstruo / Attach to the bigger ball with more masking tape and repeat 4,5,6,7,8 y 9 as many times as legs has your monster.

10. Mezclar cola blanca y agua a partes iguales y trocear el papel de cocina / Mix equal parts of craft glue and water, and cut the kitchen paper into pieces.

11. Con un pincel pegar los trocitos de papel uno a uno hasta cubrir la figura por completo y poner a secar / Glue the pieces of paper with a paint brush, one by one, until the figure is covered completely an leave to dry.

12. Con rotulador negro dibujar los detalles y despues pintar / Draw the details with black marker and it's ready for painting.
